Our Grandma wanted to live by my parents, so my cousin and I converted part of the garage into a granny apartment. We put tile on the floor, finished the walls, painted, put a fan and light kit on the ceiling, put in a Biolet (composting toilet), kitchen counter (tapped into the cold water line, and put a "point of demand" water heater under the counter), with cabinets, and an air conditioner.
